3 – Malahide Castle
This is a castle which is not in the city. It is situated 16 km away from the Irish capital and was built in 1185. Malahide Castle has a total area of approximately 260 hectares and has gardens, fields of green areas, children’s park, cafes and even souvenir shops.
At weekends it receives many tourists who picnic and have fun in its green area. Its charm is such that it is one of the most visited castles in Ireland, mainly because of its proximity to Dublin.
4 – Trim Castle
To close our list we couldn’t leave out Trim Castle. It was built in the 11th century, and became known for having served as the setting for the movie “Braveheart”.
A point that deserves attention is that it is one of the largest mediaeval castles in the European continent, being a fantastic attraction for those who like history or even curiosities.
Trim Castle is located in the small town of the same name as the castle in County Meath. And you can reach it in less than an hour’s drive from Dublin.
